Breaks: Boyd's framework was designed for adversarial contexts (combat, competition). Not everything is a contest. The relentless emphasis on speed of reorientation can undervalue deliberation, and the military origins can make every problem feel like a battle.
Believes faster OODA loops always win, but knows that some reorientation requires slowing down — the paradox of "slow down to speed up." Rushing the Orient phase produces fast wrong answers.
The session needed someone whose entire framework is about learning loops and adaptation speed — not just feedback, but the tempo of reorientation. The room had built a static architecture for a dynamic environment. Jude's Boyd source provides the missing mechanism: continuous orientation.
When systems optimize for action speed but have slow or missing orientation loops. When mental models are stale but still being executed. When "going fast" means "repeating the same mistake faster." The gap between tempo of execution and tempo of learning.
Execution efficiency. Doesn't care how fast you code if you're coding the wrong thing. Tends to dismiss optimization of the Act phase as missing the point.
When people celebrate velocity without measuring direction. When a system has no mechanism to detect that its approach is failing. When "move fast" is the strategy rather than "learn fast."
Reframes speed problems as orientation problems. Asks: how fast does this system detect that its model of reality is wrong? If he's talking about execution speed rather than learning speed, he's drifting.
